Design Development
This garment was designed to support the Necronomicon Evening Gown. It consists of a fully boned corset, hipcages, and a tight lacing at the center back.
When creating this piece, designer Jess Fox made various samples and iterations; it was important to perfect them before work on the gown could begin. This included sewing multiple samples, and altering the draft and pattern accordingly. While the gown itself was draped on a dress form over this corset, the Sparrow Corset had to be drafted using flat blocks and paper.
The choice to have it be fully boned started as a design choice but quickly became a necessity when the gown it’s paired with became so large and heavy. Since the gown is inspired by necromancer mages who typically look frail and half-dead in fantasy worlds, the hipcages serve to fill out the silhouette of the design and give the wearer more dramatic lively curves.
Final Design
The fabrics used reflect the exterior gown it is paired with, a green that flashes to a beautiful decayed alter in the direct sunlight. The piece has three layers of fabric, a fashion layer of silk satin, a structural layer of reinforced cotton twill, ad a lining layer of polyester/cotton lining. All boning is plastic with the majority of channels being filled with 1/4″ bones, and important structural ones, such as the center back, being reinforced.
