Inspiration
During a post-secondary project, students were tasked with creating a childrenswear look out of only pre-owned or used materials, clothing, and notions.
This project pulled inspiration from designer Jess Fox’s own childhood, specifically from her love of all things nerdy. Teen Titans, Go Go Gadget, Stargate Atlantis, and most notably, Red vs. Blue. Various looks were proposed throughout the initial stages of the project, but the final three depicted the two opposing teams from Red vs. Blue, as well as an extra overcoat for the “Freelancers”.
Additionally, the final colors chosen for the mini-collection came straight from the iconic machinima as well. When Fox went hunting for used clothing to deconstruct and repurpose for this challenge, she kept these colors in mind.

Design Development
While numerous sketches were created for this project, the final 3 proposed looks focused on fun utilitarian clothing with no gender. Combining both knit and woven fabrics, Fox proposed a collection of durable childrenswear meant to be worn on childlike adventures.

Once the final design was settled on to represent the Red team, Fox drafted, patterned, and made samples out of 100% cotton muslin. Changes were proposed, and the final look was assembled.
