Inspiration

The final menswear look and leadup of dozens of sketches and creative exercises were heavily inspired by fantasy games such as World of Warcraft. Specifically the visual idea of patchwork from fictional worlds such as Maldraxas, and the futuristic element of garment modularity in sci-fi. All proposed designs contained some form of these two, and the main goal was to create a look that further developed those inspirational ideas while promoting sustainability.

Design Development

By choosing to focus on the idea of patchwork and modularity designer Jess Fox decided to use deadstock materials, specifically lightweight linen and lightweight wool suitings, to create a colorful spring look that promotes sustainability. She recycled fabrics from previous projects in her educational career to make this look; including notions and threads.

The final illustration below was a part of a 6 look series done by designer Jess Fox to represent both her chosen menswear look and that of 5 of her peers in her class.

Once the final design had been developed, Fox hand-drafted, patterned and constructed samples for both garments. With fully functional zipper closures at the pant fly, pant knees & calves, and button closures on the vest; these samples were critiqued and corrected so that the garment’s proportions and fit aligned with the original design.
